Varieties, specifications and classifications of aluminum profiles

The cross-sectional dimensions of aluminum profiles are mainly determined according to user requirements. The more reasonable extrusion size range of 6063 aluminum alloy profiles under conventional extrusion conditions is shown in Figure 1-1. The curve in the figure represents its minimum extrudable wall thickness size. The minimum extrudable wall thickness refers to the comprehensive consideration of many factors such as the extrudability of the alloy, extrusion production efficiency, die life, and production cost.

Different alloys have different minimum extrudable wall thicknesses. The minimum wall thickness coefficient 6 for hollow profiles and solid profiles is shown in Table 1-2. Multiply the minimum wall thickness coefficient in Table 1-2 by the minimum wall thickness of 6063 aluminum alloy profile, which is 4, to get the minimum extrudable wall thickness of various alloys. The minimum extrudable wall thickness is also related to the cross-sectional shape of the product and the requirements for surface quality (roughness, etc.). Therefore, the minimum extrudable wall thickness determined by Figure 1-1 and Table 1-2 is only an approximate value of the circumscribed circle diameter/mm of a profile under normal conditions. In fact, by using some new extrusion technology, Figure 1-1, 6063 aluminum alloy profile minimum wall thickness extrusion production range technology, products with smaller wall thickness can be formed. For example, using carbide molds, the forming of some special thin-walled precision profiles is also possible.

The maximum formable cross-sectional dimensions of aluminum profiles mainly depend on the capabilities of the extrusion equipment. Generally speaking, the upper limit of the circumscribed circle diameter of duralumin alloy solid profiles is 300mm, and the other alloys are roughly the same as those of 6063 alloy. Using ultra-large equipment, large-section profiles with circumscribed circle diameters of 350-2500mm and above can be produced.
